Overview

AltVision ("the App") is a Shopify application that generates AI-powered alt text for your store's images to improve SEO and accessibility. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.

Data We Collect

When you install AltVision, we access the following data from your Shopify store via the Shopify API:

• Product images and Content → Files media-library images (image URLs)
• Product titles, descriptions, and category/type information
• Existing alt text (if any)
• Shop domain and basic shop information required for app functionality

We do not collect or access customer personal data, payment information, or order data.

How We Use Your Data

Your images and their associated context (title, description, category) are sent to Anthropic's Claude API (a third-party AI service) to generate suggested alt text. This is the core function of the App.

Anthropic processes this data solely to generate the alt text response and does not use it to train their models when accessed via their API. You can review Anthropic's own privacy practices at https://www.anthropic.com/legal/privacy.

Generated suggestions are stored in our database (hosted on Supabase, EU region) along with a confidence score, so you can review them before they are applied to your store. No alt text is published to your store without your explicit approval, unless you choose to bulk-approve high-confidence suggestions.

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third party other than the AI processing described above.

Data Retention

• Scan and suggestion data is retained for as long as the App is installed on your store.
• If you uninstall the App, all associated data is permanently deleted from our systems within 48 hours, in compliance with Shopify's data protection requirements.

Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)

If you are located in the EU, UK, or California, you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data. You can exercise these rights by contacting us at the email below, or by using Shopify's built-in data request/redaction webhooks, which we support natively.

Security

Data in transit is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS. Our database is hosted on Supabase with encryption at rest, and access is restricted to the App's server through row-level security. API keys and credentials are never exposed to the client and are stored securely as environment variables.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected with an updated "Last updated" date above.
